VG1
van de Graaff generator

The VG1 is the smallest van de Graaff generator in the range, standing around 0.5m tall with a 18cm diameter collecting dome. The machine is self-exciting and is driven by a shaded pole motor mounted within a strong plastic base. A 10cm diameter discharge sphere is supplied that can mount to the base for hands-free sparking or else attach via an earth ground allowing the user to draw sparks at will. Optional accessories are available for demonstrating a range of physics phenomena including electrostatic repulsion and attraction, and Brownian motion. The generator has a customised suitcase-style flight case (KL-VGF1) into which it sits. This safely holds the generator, mains and earth leads, discharge sphere and manual.

"The van de Graaff generator is one of the best machines to demonstrate the production of static electricity. Its action can be explained with great simplicity for younger audiences, while the full science behind its operation can be a surprising challenge, even for students whose native subject is physics!"
